Now Open: Austin Aspires to Justice through Collaboration
The Freedom Defense Center of Austin (FDCA) is the second community-based law office of the Cook County Public Defender, opening soon on Chicago’s West Side.
As with our Roseland Center, the Austin Center serve as a hub for legal defense, social support, and community empowerment in the recently opened Aspire Center in the Austin community. Our team will offer Courtroom advocacy, in-person consultations, referral services and public education programs designed to keep families informed and empowered.
In partnership with local organizations, we are creating a space that is welcoming, restorative, and responsive to the needs of Austin residents. Our goal is not just to defend in court—but to stand with the community at every step.
At FDCA, we meet people where they are—whether that means hosting Know Your Rights trainings, providing legal workshops for youth and families, or walking alongside clients as they navigate the complexities of the justice system. The FDCA model aligns with national efforts to reimagine public defense as not only legal, but community-centered and healing-driven.
