The Freedom Defense Center of Roseland

The Freedom Defense Center of Roseland

Now Open – Serving the Roseland Community

The Freedom Defense Center of Roseland (FDCR) is the first of its kind - a dedicated community-based office of the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender, located directly in the historic Roseland community.

The goal is not only to defend clients in court but to address the root causes of harm—like housing instability, trauma, and unemployment—through Collaboration. Staffed by a dedicated team that includes an Assistant Public Defender, a Trauma Recovery Specialist, a Client Advocate, a Defense Center Coordinator, an Arts Program Coordinator, and a Community Navigator, FDCR will provide wraparound services in partnership with local service providers including:

  • Expungement Assistance
  • Legal Resources & Representation
  • Community Legal Education
  • Pretrial Resources
  • Arts Programming

At FDCR, we meet people where they are—whether that means hosting Know Your Rights trainings, providing legal workshops for youth and families, or walking alongside clients as they navigate the complexities of the justice system. The FDCR model aligns with national efforts to reimagine public defense as not only legal, but community-centered and healing-driven.
