GSU Symposium on Social Justice and Criminal Justice Reform


Amy Campanelli, Public Defender of Cook County, provided the keynote speech at the recent Governors State University  Symposium of Social Justice and Criminal Justice Reform.  Ms. Campanelli, the Contributions to Justice Award recipient at the symposium, discussed the recent Bail reform measures in Cook County Criminal Court,  the recent Consent Decree issued to bring about change in the Chicago Police Department, the new Mental Health Unit which will be established in her office and how it will improve the wholistic representation of her clients, as well as the Police Station Representation Unit of the Cook County Public Defender's Office, a one of a kind program by which lawyers from the Office represent people under arrest at police stations throughout the County.
