How Do We Interrupt Violence Without Police?

Real solutions to violence require addressing root causes, including poverty, addiction and community health.

A short film produced by Zealous, Truthout and Teen Vogue features Attorney Supervisor Takenya Nixon and Senior Policy Advisor Sharlyn Grace from the Cook County Public Defender's Office. The video exposes common myths about crime and punishment and explains a range of critical issues and innovations, including restorative justice, violence interruption, copaganda, pretrial detention and the criminalization of survivors.

Also featured in the video are advocacy partners health advocate and entrepreneur Tanya Lozano; entrepreneur and trauma specialist Johnny Page; and advocate and policy expert Briana Payton.

Zealous works with public defenders around the country to raise awareness of public defense work and fight for criminal legal system reform and policies that work for our clients.
